ABOUT ABDI LUGUNDI
My name is Abdi Lugundi and I am the CEO and founder of Young Born Leaders, formerly Young Bantu Leaders. I obtained my bachelor's in history and communication arts at Allegheny College. I started YBL in 2018 with the hopes of providing educational and mental support to Somali Bantu youth in my community. I rebranded the program in 2020 and renamed the program to be Young Born Leaders in order to ensure inclusiveness. I have developed a full board and I am very excited for programming and initiatives this year!
At Allegheny College, I was the Allegheny Student Government President and I was the Vice President of Health and Safety for the Beta Chi Chapter of the Theta Chi fraternity. Within my fraternity, I started D.R.I.P., which stands for Diversity, Representation, and Inclusion Program. D.R.I.P. is dedicated to helping foster cultural pride within Fraternity and Sorority Life on college campuses. I was also the former President of the Somali Bantu Association of Pittsburgh and the Islamic Cultural Association at Allegheny College.
